Fractional Aircraft Ownership
Fractional ownership is a concept where 4 or 5 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) buy equal shares in an aircraft. The method of payment can be either through finance or cash, depending on the aircraft. Typically, the members of the group form a new limited company with the aircraft as its only asset.
The yearly standing charges, which include insurance, maintenance, management, and airfield parking, are calculated and divided equally among the group members. These charges can be paid on a monthly or quarterly basis. Flying time and expenses are paid separately on a pay-as-you-go basis and include costs such as pilot fuel and airport landings.
Group members have the flexibility to use the aircraft as often or as little as they want, with no upper or lower limit. The aircraft is owned by the group and can only be used for outside purposes if all members agree to it. Any outside use is charged at a full hourly rate, with the earnings paid to the group. These earnings can be used to offset flying usage or however the group decides to use them.
A standard management rate is charged per month or quarter, while flying time and expenses are invoiced to the group separately.

Aviation maintenance

In civil aviation, aircraft maintenance is generally organised using maintenance checks or blocks which are packages of maintenance tasks that have to be done on an aircraft after a certain amount of time or usage. These packages are constructed by dividing the maintenance tasks into convenient chunks to minimize the time the aircraft is out of service, to keep the maintenance workload level, and to maximize the use of maintenance facilities.
